Sitting on the south coast of England, The Isle of Portland forms part of the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO world heritage site recognised for its outstanding rocks, fossils and landforms. In fact, it is the only place on Earth where rocks from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods can be seen in one place, representing 185 million years of Earth's history.

The island boasts a rich history of fishing, quarrying and stone masonry, with Portland stone being notably used in the construction of Sir Christopher Wren's magnificent St Paul's Cathedral. There are numerous ancient monuments scattered over the island to be explored, with various walking routes all taking advantage of the breath-taking coastline.

Portland harbour is world renowned. Once a long-standing Naval Base, HMS Osprey, the harbour was a major embarkation point for Allied and American forces for the D-Day landings. Following the departure of the Navy, a substantial rejuvenation project was embarked upon culminating in Portland proudly hosting the sailing events for the 2012 Olympic Games. In the present, Portland harbour is a hugely popular destination for sailing and an array of water sports.
