Acting on behalf of Indi’s Restaurant Ltd, Goadsby has won a planning appeal for the extension of its newly opened restaurant at Station Road, Ashley Cross, Parkstone. The additional floorspace, in the form of a glazed conservatory to the rear of the property, was refused planning permission by BCP Council, who described it as an unsympathetic extension, damaging to the character and appearance of the Ashley Cross Conservation Area.
However, Government Planning Inspector Mr G Roberts disagreed with the Council. He found that:
“… the proposal would not, in my view, result in any harm to the built rhythm of the rear elevation to the host and neighbouring properties nor would it result in the loss of an important gap… the proposed extension is acceptable and … would represent a modest and appropriate addition to the host property.”
Goadsby Director of Town Planning, Peter Atfield, comments that:
“This is a sensible appeal decision that will allow a local business with an established reputation expand its customer offer. The Inspector noted the benefit of securing a viable and optimum use for a former vacant shop unit, thus enabling Indi’s to grow, and to support the vitality and viability of Ashley Cross.”
