This question is posed in response to the pre-election Labour Party proposals to introduce a new town planning land use category in a bid to build more houses. The term “Grey Belt” has been devised and is used to describe poor quality and ugly areas of the Green Belt that will be prioritised for house building. Effectively it is brown field land in a green belt location.
Goadsby Town Planning Director Peter Atfield comments:
“Introducing the concept of Grey Belt sites will just confuse the public over what form of development may, or may not, be acceptable in the Green Belt. These locations are inevitably edge of town, often remote from facilities, and with poor public transport connections. Unless developed as major urban extensions, isolated Grey Belt sites are likely to appear as incongruous stand-alone estates within verdant and rural environments.”
The sport of Kickboxing has a clear grading syllabus, with a Green Belt being advanced to the point where the first head kick is introduced. Will it be that a Grey Belt, which is not yet in existence, could end up sending the town planning world spinning?
