Planning & Infrastructure Bill Published
The Planning & Infrastructure Bill had its first reading in the House of Commons today (11th March). Among the key proposals are:
• Councils to be able to set their own planning application fees – subject to consultation and review.
• Councillors to be trained in planning law and policy – and for the training to be evidenced by a ‘Certificate of Completion’.
• Planning committees to determine fewer applications, limited to large scale proposals, with smaller applications being delegated to officers.
• The number of councillors sitting on planning committees is to be limited.
• The formation of Strategic Planning Authorities and Strategic Planning Boards to produce Spatial Development Strategies.
The Bill will pass through the House of Commons and Lords prior to Royal Assent later in 2025.
