Right To Rent

Updated: February 15, 2024

Effective from 1st February 2016 the 'Right to Rent' is a check the landlord, agent or householder who is letting out a property is obliged to undertake.

The check is to ensure that the prospective tenants, or occupants have a right to rent in the UK.

If the check is not made and the occupier has no right to rent there may be a civil penalty to pay.

Everybody who will use the property as their only or main home, even if they are not named on the tenancy agreement, must have their ID checked to ensure they have a right to rent in the UK.

Goadsby ensure the relevant checks are conducted and documented.
